Christopher and Candy Bowles

Candice Bowles (Candy) and her grandson, 6 year old Christopher Bowles, both have a love of the railroad. Candy started October 1992 and Christopher's love started when he was 3. I drove the BNSF crews to their destination from 1992 until January of 2002. Christopher would go with me to the top of the county 10 bridge and watch the trains move in and out of the Galesburg yard, the switch engines pulling out and shoving cars into the bowl tracks and most of the time spent on the bridge, waiting for an engineer or switchman to wave at Christopher. It was always such a pleasure to see his face light up when someone acknowledged him. I always tried to explain to him how the trains are made up, what a grain car, a box car or a tanker looked like. He can even tell anyone what a "flat spot" on a car is. He wants to be an engineer when he grows up. The BNSF crews are definitely one of a kind and I wouldn't trade the time I worked in the Galesburg yard for anything.
